Pokemon Headcanons Part 1

This is mainly a fun post. I will sometimes link back to some Tumblr posts. There are going to be walls of texts so I’m gonna put up bullet points.

This is a mashup of the franchise including manga, anime, and video games. I'm aiming for a slightly realistic end while the fantastical elements remain.

In general, the Pokemon world is malleable. Just look at the difference between Professor Wormwood's interpretations and this fanfiction. Why not look up SkylightSparkle on Tumblr for her Pokemon headcanons?

Just to make it clear, while I care little for the darker Pokemon AUs when we already got official confirmation of the Pokemon’s desire for fighting outside their usual habitats for their own prestige and the symbiosis between humans and Pokemon - in which the Pokemon get more of a varied experience and stronger opponents while the trainers get a career raising powerful Pokemon - from Professor Rowan.

Every time I see the ‘humans are forcing these animals who don’t want to fight! These animals are just trying to live their lives!’ argument and all the dark shit neglecting that these Pokémon are built for battle and want to fight because they want to do and it’s a great proof of growth in strength and power! While Battles are outlawed in Ryme City, the characters sure as hell aren’t arguing as they can watch battling and they need to fight for power and strength they want to gain outside their habitat.

There’s a difference between the nuance of N and the refusal to listen to those arguments. At least N got something interesting to say rather than tired arguments that makes the strict regulations look like underground dogfighting. I’m tired of just seeing the latter without any nuance and belief of the connection we see. There is a fucking reason why we see Ash gaining Pikachu’s trust! Fuck, battling isn’t the only thing in the world as contests are a thing! I’m just so tired to see such arguments when I rather want nuances like seeing that Detective Pikachu which didn’t take a negative stance and took the same stance as Pokemon Conquest and early Pokemon under Shudo’s show running with the heavy green messages and the original ending of the Pokemon marching. Did they forget Shudo’s original intentions? Like I said, those tired arguments are drilled to the ground and unimaginative as I rather have the nuances than something I see over and over. It’s like they’re arguing against something without offering a solution or even bothering that these Pokémon just have much of a desire to get out of their habitat to find opponents to better their strength and power they won’t get from their own habitat. They aren’t offering a solution except stop fighting when fighting is in the blood for most Pokémon.

And that not everyone is going to be the best. There are going to be more Youngster Joeys than Reds. I think these people are forgetting the odds of whose going to be Masters and who is not.

Oh because it’s not Digimon Tamers enough even though we got the manga and the darker stuff implied already through unspoken implications. Nah darker AUs when it’s there in canon there is dark shit already and better existential introspections like mediocrity in a path they want to be in or closeness to Pokemon better than humans when humans shun you are food for the brain than needless darkness. I like the unspoken implications and the undertones than outright dark unless the darkness serves the story well. The last thing we need is a darkness-induced apathy with no levity. And that's the argument for the edgier stuff because it's dark for the sake of dark instead of using the darkness to serve a purpose beyond 'realism and darkness!'.

I like dark stuff. If you see my AO3 bookmarks, you notice loads of dark stuff. It’s just from the Pokemon fandom, the dark stuff is just not nuanced or plain bad when I see the same parroted arguments.

It's basically the Power Rangers equivalent of 'child soldiers' even though it's clear that Zordon made it clear he never wanted to have their ranger duties get in the way of their dreams. The closest child soldier that Power Rangers even got was Samurai. Every time I see this argument made, I want to get drunk just as much as I see the arguments in the Pokemon fandom about the fighting. Unlike the 4Kids who have very misguided thinking of existential thoughts as they kept the themes in the special rather than the 'fighting is bad' theme which thanks Arceus. Remember the fighting is bad is from the 4Kids while in the original movie, it's the cloning blues and the right to live alongside the natural born. I doubt Shudo was going for the 'fighting is bad' route when he's perfectly willing to have all the dark stuff in his novelization.

There is dark stuff in Pokémon. It’s not just implied either as the Dex entries can get dark and the unspoken implications speak louder. It’s just that real-life animal fighting gets rid of a lot of imagination and suspension of disbelief and here the realism only makes sense if it has nothing to do with the battling.

Besides, downer endings are the refuge for the cowards in Pokemon fandom. Downer endings do not capture Pokemon's spirit. You can go for a bittersweet but too dark could ruin the point of what makes Pokemon.

General Pokemon Stuff that is not Government or Pokemon League

On a general basis, the Pokemon world would be a mix of magical, pseudoscience, and actual science has thrown together. Hey, at least it didn't spit in the face of science like Power Rangers.

Time is strange in the Pokemon world. Steampunk and magical stuff in the likes of Apricorn balls, the Ancient Weapon, and Magearna have been there for a long time that standard eras might be quicker than it would take years to end. That is why while the PLA is at the least 1920s or a century ago and 30 years give or take by hints that are easily shrugged away, its true-time period might be longer as pockets of humanity might integrate with Pokémon that it’s unbelievable that Japan in-universe would take longer to get integrated than the rest of the world. Even then, those sects aren't the same as the much larger villages.

Personally, it could be thousands of years ago as steampunk materials are in use. It would take generations and more than a century for the humans of Hisui to integrate with Pokémon and so many Pokémon will take time to see humans are the best avenue of gathering strength through combat. Honestly, the steampunk aspect is far too much and the timeline in the Pokemon universe might be quicker in some aspects and slower in others. Generations of fear do not go away for the Hisui settlers to the point that a ten year can go out and capture a team in 100 years. Even with the series’ power of friendship, that’s still too unrealistic for settlers to suddenly embrace Pokemon after Pokemon attack their villages and kill people. Not to mention, the Hisuian forms do not go away in a century, which takes centuries in part of ecological, sociological, and geological changes. I would understand the Diamond/Pearl Clans, the analogous Ainu people, disappearing like that is what happened but evolution and this sudden change of perfect integration do not happen in a century. Not when the Hisuian people aren't that widespread enough.

Or Hisui was just behind in the curve when everybody in other regions got Pokémon. Hisui just might’ve continued the treacherous past until they reintegrated.

Give it centuries of years so that mindset would disappear and Pokemon are fully integrated that it seems unbelievable that Pokemon wasn’t originally part of it. It would take time to settle that Pokemon could be used in everyday stuff and warfare, centuries of it - though it would not take long for warfare usage of Pokémon - before that mindset become so ingrained that things are better when Pokemon and humans are one than separate for thousands of years. By that point of the Pokemon League establishment, there are many mini-tournaments held annually and so forth. When Pokemon see better avenues of gaining strength, they will want to be part of it.

That’s why while it’s reasonable to believe to say PLA takes place some 130 years ago, that means shit when that’s too unrealistic even for Pokemon. I firmly believe that while our timeline is similar but since the tech and the world are different, it could take place thousands of years ago. Pockets of humanity having their Pokémon do not count as they probably integrated into them long ago as opposed to the villages and towns that survived Pokemon attacks. Again, generations of fear and regional forms do not go away in a century. Having just a few tamed ones in town does not mean that 10-year-olds can go on journeys a century from now, not with the generations and centuries upon thousands of work to even allow that to pass.

This is totally different from the worshipped Pokemon who would take a different stance.

Besides when we got Pokemon and human marriages in the way back past long before the time of human and Pokemon strife. That could mean that humans have lived with Pokemon, disguised or otherwise, and married them when Pokemon aren't seen as these monsters but treated as potential lifemates. So yeah, this period of time of Pokemon and human strife might only last for some time before they can reconnect.

The Pokemon timeline is weird.

I think of it similarly to the Power Rangers timeline where time is much quicker and slower in some aspects.

At least, in the dex entries, there is science even if it's based on magical creatures. It admits the scientists have no clue about some of their most physics-defying ones.

In real life, Pokemon could learn more attacks than four. Even Detective Pikachu the movie ignored that, giving the eponymous character five moves.

Honestly, I don't give a shit about type advantages or stats. Just because I'm interested in IVs, EVs, natures, abilities, and stats now doesn't mean I would care about it in a story format outside of strategies. I remember a saying from well-known Pokemon fanfic; type advantage is only a recommendation. With training and experience, one can overpower or defeat through quick thinking or control of the field. Unlike a freaking video game, this is real life where one could use moves to make the field to their advantage or find creativity in combinations or something. That means more than four moves. At the same time, it's not limitless so I just cut up to at least 6 or 7 moves at the very least and 10 to 20 at the most. Because outside of biological functions, those amount of moves would be decent enough for survival in the wild. The ones who need it the most are the ones with a shallow move pool or the four move system severely dealt them a blow. The Eeveelutions are this so hard.

Though the difference is that the moves that they will forget or will not use again are the enhancements or better versions of the moves they learn before. For example, no need to do Tackle and Harden when you got Quick Attack and Iron Defense respectively.

Technically Pokemon can learn all the moves they can do in their respective learn set but it’s not recommended or rarely work well. The top limit of at least 20 is better than having the entire list of 146 (Clefable) though Legendaries are excused from this as they are basically gods anyhow. The Legendaries and some Mythicals got an excuse but Pokemon below them could master their entire list but rarely work well.

However, I adhere to the anime where any Pokémon is capable of being badass. There is no such thing as weak Pokemon, only weak trainers. It’s just I will lean to the competition if I want strategies or tips when it comes to the stuff I barely have an understanding of. But even then, I want more creativity beyond basic move sets so that’s why I expanded the move set limits so I could do something.

The reason I did the expanded move set and did not have the strict 4 moves set was that I'm a newbie when it comes to Pokemon strategies. I remember my old strategies when I was a casual, using loads of brute force moves and less so on status moves. And then there's the tag team which has totally different rules so that's way off for me. I barely understand the competitive scene for Pokemon.

Then there's the Pokemon that I plan for certain characters which have different tiers based on their stats and that means the four moves set that I grasp when it comes to the game is less so when it comes to the competitive scene where people have to find creative ways to benefit their Pokemon.

I'd rather have a Pokemon be a cleric, a wall, and a sweeper all at once. The other roles (scout/lead/anti-lead, revenge killer, Rapid Spinner, Sleep Absorber, Spiker, Choice user, and support) could be all those roles at once too. I barely understood any of these roles even with a basic search. Just useful and beneficial moves for all and the best fit for circumstances is what I got. I'm a better Coordinator than I am a Battler when I played the games. Please, my brother referred to me whenever we want to participate in Contests.

When we got somehow magnetic fields (Chargestone Cave got floating rocks that are somehow a symptom of the electricity) that are on par with One Piece's extremes which is a world that in no way could exist, then anything that is just science could not explain.

Because of the purity of their resources and their medicinal contents, the humans there live longer than here where the average lifespan is 80 years. Without any immortal byproducts like the Ancient Weapon keeping AZ immortal except with only the growth of white/gray hair, then it's possible humanity in the Pokemon world can live to 100 or so years old.

Pokemon would be used in everyday things. Every media in the Pokemon franchise showcase this brilliantly. For example, chefs including patisseries would use Slurpuff and Alcremie as major help. In the newest Dex entry for Slurpuff, doctors are considering Slurpuff as a beneficial help in the medical field. It's not surprising since Hypno is working in hospitals to help insomnia.

Service and therapy Pokemon exists. Pokemon are so intrinsic that various traditions include them in some way.

For example, the Best Pokemon are there to stand beside their trainer at the altar or the one walking the bride down the aisle or creating things like flower crowns or spun silk veils.

Many companies would name themselves after a Pokemon. As seen in the Detective Pikachu movie poster, there are Jigglypuff Records for example. Not to say that there aren't any original named businesses and products.

Trainers are allowed to carry more than six only if they're not using them in battle/contests/performances/competitions. The only trainer class allowed to carry more than six are the trainers involved in sports and Pokemon Rangers. Technically trainers are allowed to hold an egg even if they have a full party of six. If you can carry more than six Pokémon when you’re a trainer, then you must have permission from the regional professor, particularly if you are just going to have three or four reserve members instead of practically building an army in every region you are in.

To switch Pokeballs in the Transfer Machine (which works just as well as a Trade machine), they have to switch them out at a Pokemon Center and Daycare Center. Families are allowed to take in the Pokemon if they don't want Pokemon Professors or Daycare professionals. Just as long as someone you trust, then it's fine to send it over to them.

Humans have evolved themselves to take Pokemon attacks or to survive just enough to be taken to a hospital. They would be resistant to allergies to a major extent. Hey, this is the place where pure water in this world has healing and medicinal qualities. This is different from Ghost Pokemon.

As for the legendaries and mythical, there will be more than one. However, they are rare because of course, they are; they just tend to keep to themselves. Just to be clear, there will be one Alpha Legendary/Mythical that oversees their domain who will be reborn again via an egg. Just don't capture the Alpha, just don't or else throw the world into a mess. The other ones are perfectly fine for capture but not the original Alpha.

About Pokemon poachers, they are catching Pokemon not with Pokeballs since those would immediately register them as theirs. Since they are catching Pokemon for the black market or for rich people who want rare Pokemon for a high price, they're hunters essentially when hunting Pokemon is banned.

General Pokemon - the animals, not the world itself - can be found here. It's helpful given how the reports try to explain the Pokemon scientifically while still keeping its magical world like Fairy Force. There are those I have disagreements with such as eating these Pokémon like Skiddo and Appletun so be clear these are my headcanons and those are his. However, since going through this is too much right now, it’s best to leave this when it’s best to explain.

Though they are still useful. See Petilil's report of the regrowing of the leaves that were taken as a medicinal ingredient but grow ill should the leaves taken far too often.

The Dex entries, while useful, are missing info with context.

For the heights, I think it averaged the max height while the anime showcased their average height. The Dex height shows how large these animals could be while the average sizes would be what the anime and the Let’s Go games show. Pokemon can vary in size from each other even in their evolution forms. This includes Totem Pokemon and even sizes found in the wild in Pokémon though those guys are mainly the leaders of their packs and rarely interact with humans, perfectly capable of surviving in the wild. PLA also showcases this with the Alpha Pokemon which are the size of the Dex entries at the least while the normal sizes we are used to are the average sizes. The anime isn't pulling stuff out of their ass with the giant Pokemon or large than average size Pokemon. They do exist, just the ones that we see often in the anime are the average sizes rather than the averaged max size that the Dex dictated.

There are the asexual and intersex or spontaneous reproduction systems of particular species, especially when they’re generally either male or female. These are animals first after all.

Evolution via Friendship or affection in the wild is either due to mating or even the care of others.

Now about the eggs themselves. Those are typically daycares and breeders aka captivity not that this method isn’t available to the wild Pokemon. In the wild, depending on which animal Pokemon are based on, they either birth live young or do birth eggs. For survival purposes, most species would breed via Egg so that their young have all the abilities they need. Not that they can’t birth live young, particularly the species that are in abundance and living relatively peaceful lives away from predators. Those who see the live young are scientists out in the field, Pokemon Watchers, nature photographers, and some chance encounters. Just to be clear, nobody in the Pokemon has ever seen Pokemon lay an egg before canonically so seeing two possible methods must be an amazing thing for evolution.

That said, despite what the game and anime show babies capable upon hatching, they still are babies and need weeks of development before having their first match. This means babies who are tiny versions of their stronger selves before growing.

Eggs are colored to what the Pokemon looked like. If you want the more generic color and want more of a mystery, go for the dotted color ones. Personally, for me, I like the designs more than the dots.

While there is such thing as a Move Tutor, it’s best for Move Tutors to have their Pokemon demonstrate a move, and then the Pokemon student in question would follow practicing until they master. It works for traveling trainers who didn’t want to leave the Pokemon behind. Though they will still tutor them in those moves by teaching them.

Trained Pokemon or Pokemon under the care of humans tend to have a different diet, personality, and overall lifestyle from the wild ones. Not that they don’t have the scariness of certain behaviors like the Chandelure evolutionary family’s need for energy that they solely rely on that they need constant eye.

Normally, there would be some species, three to five per route/city/town. However, when we see Ryme City in the movie holding up to over thirty species with the Pidgeot line and Braviary lines being the most in the air, somehow we saw Alolan native Pokemon like Comfey in a Kantonian city. Not to mention in the Lental region, there are over 200 species in total with over 19 species alone in one stage.

I do have a fondness for Shinies I do like. However, I'm just as drawn to alternately colored Pokemon that aren't exactly Shiny but Shiny all the same. Please, I love the alternately colored Pokemon in the anime where we see slight adjustments. I'm not talking about regional variants, just differently colored enough that it couldn't be called Shiny officially but just slight colorings. Therefore, it's easy for me to imagine the black coloring on a Shiny Mega Gallade to invoke a design of a tux just like the Shiny Mega Gardevoir's black dress.

I imagine Shinies are rare in the wild because it's easier for predators to seek out more than normal ones, discounting the rare births in captivity. Shinies stick out like a sore thumb and alternately colored ones are just another cherry on top. However, humans regard Shinies with awe and often catch them. Shinies, due to their rarity, are prized by humans.

While gift Pokemon is a thing, it's best for beginner trainers to befriend a potential starter first and get that line of connection first. Sometimes, it can be done as a look or even just a day of bonding. It makes more sense realistically and for story weight. Then again, to even have the regional starter, beginner trainers must go through hoops just to choose a starter. Even then, not everyone in the world is gonna start with the regional starter so it's easier that way.

The evolutionary methods for Eevee are known commonly though the stones should the region do not have their own Mossy/Icy Rocks. Stones are far more in abundance than Mega and Key Stones.

Food

This one is much harder. Fishermen are said to still exist while hunters are nigh gone. Sushi shops still exist after all.

Hunting Pokémon will be banned especially after the debacles that were Kangaskhan, Lapras, Farfetch’d, and Sharpedo - not listed here are the other Pokemon who were nearly hunted to extinction but were able to restore their numbers kind of since Farfetch’d is still indicated to still be rare.

Over-harvesting the food they produce is also frowned upon as Chansey and Blissey are rare in the wild due to the over-harvest of the eggs they produce.

Finding food produced by Pokemon like their autotomy is in the grey because wild Pokémon need it more than humans do; humans can eat it but still, it’s in the wild. However, that autotomy factor must not involve actually cutting it illegally because nature is far more important here than making a buck just because these Pokémon can regrow them later. In the wild, the wild is important whereas you must have a license to farm or even as a trainer who knows the autotomy feature will fall off.

Now, for meat from seafood to eggs to meat from land animals, I always thought of it as artificially made. If real animals can't exist alongside Pokemon because the food chain would make the real animals die out, then the meats have to be artificial. Now, while I don't take Takeshi Shudo for his word a lot of the time because of how the anime has evolved since then, he did make interesting notes about animals being extinct so... these artificial meats have to make sense.

As for fishing, well... Fishermen are said to still exist. So either fish still exist or they also eat fish Pokemon as detailed below. Since the world is very malleable, we can decide which or even have artificial meat. If I have to guess, it’s based on abundance and not veering into overfishing. While Pokemon is intelligent, I just don’t know unless they still eat the fishes listed below but in the expensive restaurants or in the black market or something with artificial meats, they replicate the taste and texture of the non-autotomy fishes. Hey, we know there are predator and prey as well as parasitic relations in the Pokemon animal kingdom.

Or regular fish and regular pigs, cows, etc bred in captivity. Either way, any route that I show can still be right.

But this is different from food like

  • Slowpoke Tail - no idea what food equivalent they're supposed to be. It's not nutritious so there's that. It's an autotomy feature so these tails will fall off when they should be instead of being severed.
  • Crabrawler pincers - crab that only has little meat on it. Kingler is more based on a king crab, the most known crab that we eat. Again, autotomy.
  • Clauncher/Clawitzer claws - shrimps but we're eating the autotomy feature that has lots of meat. Again, autotomy.
  • Basculin - bass. We eat bass.
  • Wishiwashi - sardines. That's what they are.
  • Barraskewda - barracuda meat that is edible in real life
  • there might be other Water Pokemon I haven’t listed here because it seemed like Water Pokemon are eaten most of the time. But the probably would be
  • Qwilfish - pufferfish and it’s a delicacy in Japan so…

The latter three have been implied to be eaten in the past because unlike the first three Pokemon food on this list could just regrow their appendages. Wishiwashi, Basculin, and Baraskewda could still be eaten now because the only way I could take them getting eaten is if they are just like the common fishes we see in supermarkets now. We know for sure Tentacool and Goldeen are common in waters.

On a side-note about the Slowpoke Tail, according to the song, the foodstuff was supposed to be suckled like honeysuckle, not eaten because the only apparent way for it to be eaten was to be dried. This is weird since, in the latest generation, we were introduced to a smoked version of the foodstuff, which is something only done to completely edible food. Not to mention, according to this menu, there's Braciole (slices of meat that are pan-fried or grilled) of Slowpoke Tail. Even in the manga, there's a grilled version of Slowpoke Tail, not dried and used in soups, actually grilled in a fashion similar to ikayaki. Since then, I too started to ignore the suckled factor and only dried to eat when even the mangaka people ignored that little detail.

As for the illegal obtainment, I'm thinking that's more cutting the tail off from wild Pokemon regardless of when it will fall off. That's what I think the illegal factor would make the most sense. I think similarly to Miltank ranches, there would be seaside Slowpoke farms just like Corsola farms. Why else would there be an Azure Bay Slowpoke Tail ready for a restaurant? Slowpoke is in no way an endangered species and their tails grow back and edible so it would make the most sense humans would want to eat the tails. Still, the illegality factor makes sense when we're dealing with Team Rocket here who would cut off the tails of wild Slowpokes and sell them off. Why could it be sold but not remarked upon by authorities unless there's a license or legality involved that you can sell them and as a food shop, you can sell this food under the right circumstances? It's not like it's a secret when that guy is telling it.

Seriously, if there are Tropius ranches, then there should be Slowpoke farms. When the tails in form of various food products the world over are being sold and eaten even in the Gold and Silver, the selling of the tail didn’t raise any eyebrows until it was learned Team Rocket was behind this particular establishment. Remember even a random Grunt remarked its delicacy back in a freaking Japan-based region. Honestly, it’s more licensing and taking wild tails without the due to nature regardless the animals will grow it back.

  • Sharpedo fins used to be hunted for the fins for likely Sharpedo fin soup - maybe because I saw them all the time in Pokemon media that it's not quite a Magikarp level of common or even Goldeen but it's somewhere in the middle where you can find them for the most part but aren't as rare as Farfetch'd who was indeed hunted to near extinction and are rare to find; considering how shark fin soup is pretty good, at least using imitation meats for the dish at least is really good as my family usually prefer my mom's recipe for it alongside her famous bun rieu, something my pregnant cousins really crave only her recipe and my eldest cousin's husband's favorite; honestly, as long as imitation meats for Sharpedo fins are done so well that hunting for Sharpedo decreased so drastically though it's a worldwide law about hunting Sharpedo. Very likely to have restored to healthy numbers.
  • similarly, Farfetch'd, the Kantoian form that is, have been hunted to near-extinction and thus are rare. Unlike Lapras, I haven't seen dex entries about breeding to restoring Farfetch'd to a decent number. Based on ducks. Galarian Farfetch'd while rare didn't have to deal with that problem since they're knights. But they would have to survive their harsh environments even with their adaptation so it seems Galarian Farfetch’d is still rare just like its Kantoian form.
  • Cherubi - eaten in the past by Pokemon and humans alike though the humans part would be negligible now. Based on cherries.
  • Bounsweet juice - like Cherubi, Pokemon and humans have eaten them in the past though Bounsweet was way too sweet for human consumption yet the juices are edible for humans if diluted. Based on mangosteen and unlike Steenee and Tsareena, at least we can get food from it.
  • Appletun - the skin on the back is edible and used to be a popular treat but I don't know if Appletun could just regrow the skin back since this Pokemon is apple pie incarnate so there is the likelihood of just regrowing via eating Sweet Apples
  • Petilil - leaves on its head that can be boiled and the Dex entries haven’t mentioned if it’ll fall off or not but considering they’re living plants, they could regrow them
  • Bayleef's neck leaves that have a small shoot of a tree in them - fragrances for medicinal effects. Not quite harvest, but could sniff it for health effects
  • Glossifleur's pollen and Eldegoss' seeds - used for remedies for the sick while the latter is used as a snack or as a nutritious food for the malnourished.
  • Leafeon's fragrance - like Bayleef, fragrances but not for medicine but for perfume. Like living plants, they could regrow them as they live off of sunshine and photosynthesis just like Torterra. Torterra would regrow its mini forest. Or they could place their plant into a shell until it's alright.
  • Gloom's odor - for perfume ingredients though Vileplume could be viable for perfume too, I guess. Though with poison, extreme dilution is needed.
  • Weezing's gases - extreme dilution to make perfume.
  • Salazzle's gases - extreme dilution to make perfume
  • Spritzee and Aromatisse - They emit perfume, bad and good that could be made into perfume just like Leafeon's probably. They're basically perfumes in a Pokemon.
  • Cinccino’s oil - this species secretes oil that can spread over nests to protect from dust. Dex said the oil is effective and really expensive at the market. Since it secretes and spreads, then they could still do it but be careful about it.

As for dairy, we got the popular Moomoo milk produced daily by Miltanks (cow's milk) that can be made into dairy products like ice cream and cheese with only the cheese being added into the latest generation though the other products have always been a part of other media.

Skiddo is more likely to produce milk as they are goats though from what I read about its evolution, Gogoat, is not likely to produce milk as much as Skiddo would. Then again, Gogoat is still a goat even if it's based on goats that we don't use for milk preferably from. Skiddo and Gogoat learn Milk Drink, Miltank's signature move so... Obviously, it's goat's milk.

This is the same I think with Wooloo and Dubwool, the former of which is far more useful in farms in their first evolution who would produce the equivalent of sheep's milk. Dubwool and Gogoat would be better elsewhere than being domestic sheep and goat. Honestly, they most likely produce milk though from what I read about those inspirations, humans don't drink their milk. The wool from Dubwool has to be useful somewhere since apparently, it's so springy it's a trampoline. It might not learn Milk Drink but they’re still sheep.

As for the other food/material gathered by humans,

  • Chansey and Blissey have eggs every day and like Miltank, must be gathered. Though given the rarity of Chansey and Blissey outside of Pokemon Centers and trainers, it's to get artificial eggs that are not the same. These eggs are exceptionally delicious and egg-based & any recipes using eggs will be scrumptious. Though in this case, this one will be heavily regulated and this line preferred their eggs to be eaten by the given party, not be resold at a high price.
  • Octillery's ink (their equivalent of squid ink although artificial squid ink would still be made) is said to be used in cooking.
  • Combee and Vespiquen make honey
  • Paras and Parasect has a fungus that can be used to make medicine
  • Ribombee's pollen puffs are used in supplements
  • Gabite's scales are used for medicine
  • Seadra's bones and fins are also used in medicine
  • Shuckle is used as a fermenting source to make juices
  • Tropius produce bananas or fruits as it said in the text edible for humans
  • Bug Pokemon's silk particularly that of Ariados and the Leavanny line being used for weaving/sewing
  • Then are other Pokemon appendages that are used for medicine or fragrances like Petilil (Lilligant secretes oil from their flower so that's easily extracted) and Leafeon which suggest autotomy features. I have to look up how on earth they would extract Leafeon's fragrance safely without destroying Leafeon.

Food produced by Pokemon and consumed by humans is deemed okay, especially if humans have way too many and often donate to either local markets or businesses that deal in distributing those materials to companies in need of those materials. That’s how I see

  • wool shorn by trainers from Wooloo/Dubwool - for clothes, etc though special treatment must be done to lessen the trampoline nature of Dubwool’s fleece.
  • while Mareep will shed instead of shorn - for clothes, etc. Like Dubwool, special treatment to lessen the electricity.
  • Crabrawler's claws - food
  • Clauncher and Clawitzer's claws - food
  • Slowpoke's tails - food
  • shed fur from Lopunny - for winter clothing like mufflers and hats
  • Chansey/Blissey's eggs - food. Heavily regulated and only the given party may eat it but not resell it. The eggs sold are incredibly expensive due to this and often best for the given party and teammates. For the trainers’ sake, I hope they read up on the regulations.
  • Tropius' fruit/bananas - food
  • Liligant's flower oil - essential oils
  • Glossifleur's pollen - for remedies
  • Cinccino’s oil - skin treatment oils. Though this one is best for smaller vials than actual donations since these just keep secretes the oil.
  • Pyukumuku's oil - slime for skin moisturizer. It secretes every day like Cinccino but best be careful just like the aforementioned Pokemon.
  • Ribombee's pollen puffs - medicinal supplements and food
  • shed skin from Dratini - for boots but are mostly used by luxury
  • Tangela’s vines - As herbs. Said to snap easily and painlessly when pulled. There’s also supposed to be a distinct scent so perfume is too likely.
  • shed Heart Scales from Luvdisc - for jewelry, collecting
  • Clamperl's pearls - for jewelry. More valuable pearls than Shellder's pearls. Though the Dex did say it only produced one pearl in its lifetime since it's based on clams, 2-5 pearls would make sense.
  • Shellder's pearls - for jewelry. Though Shellder will discard their pearls, making it easier for collecting. I think this species, like oysters, would make 26 pearls.
  • Skarmory’s shed feathers - for knives, swords, and other sharp objects
  • Aron’s shed armor - for steel items
  • Kingdra’s shed scales - for jewelry, collecting
  • Linoone’s shed fur - for shaving brushes
  • Gabite’s shed scales - for medicine
  • Kantoian Sandslash’s shed and broken paws and spikes - carving plows for tilling farm fields
  • Diggersby’s shed fur - heavy winter clothing
  • Hakamo-o’s shed scales - can be molded and processed to make pots and pans
  • Wigglytuff’s shed fur - for yarn
  • Eldegoss' cotton fluff and seeds - likely shed as they blow in the wind as they are basically cotton balls on animals and cotton are blown to the wind. It's likely autotomy if people are using it for cotton and yarn. This Pokemon already spreading its seed to fertilize therefore it must be possible that they're spreading the cotton too. The seeds are used as food.
  • Cottonee and Whimiscott's cotton fluff - likely shed if blown to the wind. Autotomy feature if people use it for cotton. Like Eldegoss, their cotton must be blown off as well. Already, the latter's cotton fluff was said to tear and scatter should it build up too much in the Dex.
  • Talonflame’s feathers - used to be wings, but feathers would be more accessible and would need to make flame-retardant wear
  • Petilil’s leaves - for medicine. They’re plants so they likely regrow it but best not be hasty pulling the leaves too often will let them be sick so pull them when they’re ready and wait at least some time.
  • Leavanny line and Ariados’ silk - for sewing though it’s best not to donate them when these guys will help with the sewing if it’s your hobby
  • Sharpedo’s fangs - accessories
  • Corsola horns - for jewelry, fine craftsmanship

being donated to businesses that need or have more use of them. Unless the trainer knows how to use the wool or fur or feathers or scales or horns or armor or skin in a way that won’t waste, the trainers have to carry around the excess until they reach a town. Course, they could also sell them too to specialized shops that would distribute them.

Pokemon-shaped food and appliances (Pokemon merch would be extremely popular.) are a huge thing in the Pokemon world. I imagine these would do such as one and two. The food offered at the real-life Pokemon cafe could also help as they may be real products in the series including seasonal offers (cherry blossom season, holidays, etc) depending on the region. Just look up the official Pokemon Cafe food pictures on Google.

Kalos celebrate Halloween so I can see them offer the Halloween Pokemon-shaped food as well as everywhere else celebrating Christmas so the same could be said though it's more a mix of familial and romantic in Kanto/Johto/Hoenn/Sinnoh while more familial in Kalos, Alola, and Galar.

Menus would also use Berries which are also available for human consumption. Growing these berries would do well for restaurants since Berries seem to grow everywhere as long as it's kept healthy. We got Berry Tarts from the Pokemon Cafe game as well as the Pecha Berry tart as well as Pecha Pate. So yeah, fit for human and Pokemon consumption.

This goes with the fruits and vegetables which are naturally grown. Unlike artificial meats, these are completely natural. Crops are fine too.

About the Poffins, I always thought it was a choux pastry filled with berry compote with the seeds on top are the berry seeds or leftovers. It could also be homemade custard. Berry reduction is only a part of the beginning process.

Education

I have a headcanon that trainers on the road learn electronically. Y'know all those adverts from so-called schools that have students learn at their own pace, the kind that looks so scammy? Or a better example of BTS's college of choice and how they chose to go to college online due to their hectic schedules? Imagine that but instead provided by the Pokemon League and the government.

Pokemon journeys are a huge part of the lore and you can start your journey no matter the age (in BW2, our player character was 16 and our protag in SWSH was in their tweens) unless you are younger than 10 where then you must be supervised. I know that it's commonly accepted that kids younger than 10 could receive their first Pokemon as seen by many games and even anime characters (one-off characters who look way younger than Max yet somehow already have their first Pokemon) but cannot participate in any official League stuff like competitions.

In the anime, holding Pokemon from one trainer and given to another has been accepted as shown by Clemont and Bonnie. While I always held the belief that Max will one day go back to the Pokemon Center somewhere between Sootopolis and Izabe Island with his Treeko likely and another Pokemon he would catch because he made a promise dammit to come back for the Ralts, it could go either way since kids as young as 10 are legally allowed to own their own Pokemon.

So it makes sense for traveling trainers to have their education on the go and learn at their own pace.

Colleges would be accepting of all trainers and everyone basically though major colleges are in major cities. It's not the same of say testing into these colleges. You can just send in applications including what you have done in your travels. The cherry on top is if you won any sort of competition or have a background in any self-taught things like breeding and grooming skills.

Though schools for occupations like medical and law, then you must have qualifications and that includes credits and passing their tests with flying colors. Those are far more difficult to get in though if someone would still want to be a nurse and work at a Pokemon center at best, you could attend schools dedicated to teaching Pokemon nurses and still have enough experience for humans to pass and work competently at a Pokemon Center. Especially when Jessie's teacher didn't make a fuss and the poster was at Jessie's university.

Trainers who don't go and travel usually stay at regular schools. Those kinds of schools are just registering in unlike applying into colleges. Though applications into colleges are still the same. Testing into colleges is not a thing, likely because of the different skill sets and experiences trainers go through because journeys are a huge part.

Trainer schools are different since, unlike traveling trainers, they study to become trainers at home. They can have field trips. Most beginners and younger would come to know. Sometimes, some schools would allow them to participate in Leagues lest they can compete against reasonably powerful trainers. It's open for traveling trainers too if they wish to enroll no matter how long.

Because of how Pokemon interacts with human society, it's somewhat easier to apply for those jobs or intern if you are already a trainer. Unfortunately, for every new player character (seriously, even in SWSH showcase this, Leon and Victor/Gloria are the most powerful trainers on Galar and the game makes no effort they became Champion at a very young age), there's always a Youngster Joey. That means the trainers who can make a living out of being trainers have to be the best.

Though about the money part, I always have a headcanon that it's a split of prize money and the League giving debt-free monthly payments. Some families might be able to give money to them as they travel too. That doesn't mean trainers won't always know where to go since lost trainers might lose their way and fall into bad circles like the evil Teams excluding Team Flare (since these guys are elitist as fuck). That doesn't mean poor people don't exist, especially when they fall through the cracks and ended up in said bad circles. Jessie, in particular, was so poor that she have to eat snow just to survive and not the way Xiao would do. So yeah, while a trainer's lifestyle could be difficult, especially when you're mediocre, at least you're getting some amount of cash. And that's on top of other methods like treasure hunting and gambling albeit one with restrictions.

And it does help that Pokejobs exist too so it could be a beneficial source for trainers who need the money.

That money would stop pouring in if you took a job though. Then capitalism would decide your fate. Trainers in college would still have the money pouring in until they find a job. Interning would still be given some cash until these guys officially got jobs.

I always thought the jobs in Pokemon are far more well-paying, enough to earn a living at the 25.00 per hour kind of deal because Pokemon is such a huge part of the world as well as journeying so everyone has a decent salary to earn a living. At least, those registered because falling through the cracks of society means losing access even though you could still qualify for most things. I mean we saw Jessie apply for the nursing school for Chanseys.

And my headcanon for the Team Rocket trio (quartet when we're counting Wobbuffet) after choosing to let go of the whole Team Rocket thing was registering. Though this is after Jessebelle and James' parents are long gone, they could do what they do best. James with opening a Pokemon breeding house at his mansion, Jessie and Meowth opening a scam business though the businesses they do end up well are the ones they are the best at like cooking. Hey, their bread and donuts were hits in Alola. Even in the beginning, they took odd jobs like food kiosks.

Tech

Camping is such an intrinsic part of the Pokemon journey that apart from the Pokeball Transfer Machine and Storage System (which is more transferring to a place you can trust), tech has to have grown.

Have you seen Brock’s backpack or Cilan’s or Clemont’s or Serena’s? Sometimes, these guys bring entire picnic tables and chairs out. I know this is anime but a table shouldn’t be that foldable and it shows that Serena loves to bake on the road meaning there has to be a portable oven. We can have a portable stove or stoves or even make a fire to cook it over a fire. Did you see that stew pot? That’s hefty and I saw hefty camping tools that having that big of a stove pot would mean bigger or additional baggage but Brock is only carrying his backpack that could carry some pans but not that pot.

The tech to carry a portable oven that can bake anything you can think of at home on the road would have to be made. The bags to carry these stuff have to be limitless that you can put freaking tables in there.

Storage in these backpacks is wide as they can store bikes. To carry more clothing, an invention such as a storage capsule holding up to weeks' worth of clothing was made though expensive.

Given how fast the tech world moved that Rotoms became part of the Dex, I think smartphones with apps and the Internet would be available. Just look at Galar that has some kind of Instagram or Twitter. It would take the least space in the backpack.

However, still camping is a necessity. Kids before the age of 10 must attend camps if they even want to journey at all because having these basic life skills in the wild is imperative. Unless they want to take the shortcut and take the route of Pokemon Schools dedicated for trainers.

The tech is already more advanced than we are with machines to travel in time and into different dimensions including parallels; communicators that transcend space; energy transfer and automatic teleportation to reliable sources for Pokemon safekeeping; cloning; antigravity machines; Dream Projector to see dreams; Pokemon Speaker to allow communication with Pokemon; Pokemon Transformator that turns humans into Pokemon; and Pokeballs.

Pokeballs would immediately register the Pokemon as their trainers only. It can still be fixed if broken.

The Pokeballs are harmless and humane. It took work for the modern standardized Pokemon to be actually accepted as Apricorn balls are at the very least comfortable. It took reworking to make the balls comfortable. Unless the Pokemon prefer to be outside although the ball must immediately register the Pokemon for the trainer. According to Alder in the games, the modern Pokeball is only made some 70 years ago when we know that the Apricorn Balls have been made longer than that.

The Pokeball Transfer Machine that can act as a good trade machine is usually restricted to Professor Labs, Daycares, and Pokemon Centers.

Speaking of Pokemon Centers, they have machines invented by Silph for medical purposes such as a Heal Pulse Machine, a machine in which they recreated artificial healing rays of certain Pokemon moves and berry extracts. Those are also available in hospitals and the miniaturized versions are found at clinics and Daycares.

Pokemon would be used as a clean source for power because it's convenient and better to employ those methods than destroy the world through human means. Not that humans won't try.

Cars, ships, and planes are not good for the environment and there isn't much Pokemon can do about that. However, I think those are mostly stationed in populous cities. While small towns would have cars, their preferred method would be bikes. Trains are far more efficient in cities, especially powered by Electric Pokemon and handled by humans because advanced machinery or not, mechanics can still break down. On a brief note about public transit, they are clean and free. The public transit works are after all paid handsomely by the company.

And even then, variations like airships, blimps, hot air balloons, jetpacks, and mechas are somehow not powered by oil but by some antigravity mechanics. There are even flying cars and motorbikes in the manga. Hovering antigravity machinery that somehow coexists with trainers who use their Pokemon for flying purposes. Heck, I doubt the Galar Taxi service even uses gas as Corviknight just flying around with the cabbie on the back.

However, I think they need a license to even pilot those aforementioned aircraft just like airplane pilots. Because they need a license, trainers and normal people don't use those and are usually traveling on other methods unless invited in. And it's not a lot for it to be made when people need a license to pilot these things.

What I could guess is that it's patented including robotics. When we got mecha going around, there had to be patented or at least scientists building them for the smaller scale. Kanto and Johto as adjacent regions and surely they can travel by ferry/boat. In the regions, the trainers are perfectly fine flying on their flying Pokemon or the ones who can learn Fly to travel. Though Poke-rides or the Galar Taxi are set in place that trainers don't need to go that length. Walking and biking are preferable methods in regions.

With the involvement of magic and pseudoscience, there would have to be Magitech. There has to be some kind of explanation for the more fantastical technology like the Dream Projector and that Arceus phone that is more Arceus-made than manmade.

I'm sure because Pokemon is such a huge part of the world, green clean methods are devised so more trash and grimy Pokemon don't come into more existence. Yes, I'm talking about the Grimer/Muk and the Trubbish/Garbodor line. Heck, even Koffing/Weezing is just as much of a product of waste while the Galarian regional form is far more green.

Or cause regional forms to develop such as Galarian Corsola and Cursola. Look, I love Corsola and its regional forms because it's just unique to see regional forms.

Now, of course, trans surgeries would go far, even having that breakthrough of giving trans women uteruses and a fully reproductive system and all. It makes sense when we got a Black Belt guy operated into a Beauty lady in XY.

Sports

I'm talking about the sports we know and Pokemon sports equivalents that are not battling/contests/performing.

This is all done by the Pokemon Sports Committee as well as just Sports Committees in general. Both are still related to each other and will have to make deals with singers and other committees to make use of stadiums. Especially Pokemon League because they oversee everything Pokemon battling.

Pokemon Contests have a little better since they take place in either stadium or indoor arenas that are still large enough to have one battlefield. Though the Pokemon Contests also share establishments with other contests and smaller sports like ping pong and recreations as well as stage theaters. Sometimes, sports committees would find it easier to hold it in arenas unless it's particularly big events like tournaments and it would be held in official arenas and stadiums that would be shared with the Pokemon League. Hey, when our stadiums and arenas are shared by concerts and sports, I'm sure they're going to make it work for everyone.

Because of Pokemon Contests, these indoor arenas could be easily converted for use of stage theater so it should be manageable. Like those are big enough and unlike battles, it's not as dangerous given how much softer the attacks ended up being.

Though repairs must be worse since in battles, there would be damage.

Alolan wrestling rings aka Battle Royal can be used for regular pro wrestling uses as well as Pokemon wrestling. Wrestling does take place in regular arenas and stadiums too so they too would need help with other

We know the sports we know would still be there. Else there wouldn't be trainer classes for athletes in the games. Heck in the anime, we know about baseball players.

Perhaps those sports as well as Pokemon battles would play on the same field. In Galar, the stadiums would still have to act as a field for soccer/football, tennis, and so forth. In the goddamn off-season for battling, there should be other sports that have been popular. Even though Pokemon battling is the most popular sport ever in the Pokemon world, other sports shouldn't be shunted to the side and left to rot. Because as little as I know about sports seasons, I know that each country does things differently so I thought it make sense. Don't come to know about sports seasons for Pokemon Battling that I think take place for a year for beginner trainers. Any Pokemon sports, as well as Battling/Contests/Performing, are open for one year from beginning to end. This is the same for big artists as I do think smaller arenas made for sports too are also popular for singers.

So, think the sports played over the world would have different seasons in mind with what is popular in that country. These regions might have different seasons though. Though because the Pokemon sports take place all year while Pokemon sports that aren't those three would designate several months at a time at least. Honestly, some regions would have separate stadiums just for those sports alone since Kanto and Unova in the anime and games show this. In Galar, unless the Pokemon League managed to strike a good deal with sports committees, then the sports players, no matter how popular Pokemon Battling is there, would be resentful.

Kanto, Johto, and Unova got baseball. Baseball is popular in Japan so it would make sense for people would play it, even in England where football is far more popular than baseball even though English teams are terrible. Hey, that's the truth, the football teams in England are terrible and they got losses enough for an Italian to mark every failure into a stone. I'm sure in Sinnoh and Hoenn, baseball is very popular just as much as Kanto and Johto are Japanese prefectures.

We know there are Pokemon equivalents of human sports; for example, the Pokeathlon, a track and field event but with Pokemon. Pokeathlon got its own stadium in Goldenrod City so I think it shares with track and fielders. It's easy to imagine other Pokemon doing the events. In the anime, there's even Pokemon boxing for fighting Pokemon open for trainers.

I imagine there are two events, one for trainers and one for pros. To enter the pros, the trainers must be dedicated to their craft enough that battling could be a side thing and do all the stuff to become a pro. In the games, we do see sports players battle albeit that is a video game thing where we battle trainers every time we turn around. For the trainers, they must train their Pokemon but aren't the professional athletes like the other side of the game are. Sometimes, there are even events that athletes and their Pokemon would participate in together. However, that's gotta be hard when we know how athletes today are trained, and imagining training athletes and Pokemon in the same discipline in a team event gotta be hard.

Just as we have actors/actresses, we have Pokemon actors/actresses. Diantha, Brycen, and that Jacqueline actress work alongside their Pokémon in acting jobs. I don’t see anything different. These Pokémon actors would have trainers as we have seen with Luke’s Zorua and Karpy’s manager maybe. There is no way Karpy is wild because that fish doesn’t mind acting unless he wanted to evolve which the fish wanted to do. However, that is just an explanation while I'm gonna go on that more hopefully.

Anyway, getting back to sports, I imagine an Olympics called Pokelympics. Just imagine the variety of sports we could see and it would double or triple the already known Olympics event time. Unless they can squish everything in over two weeks, then I guess it’s fine. With Pokémon, it’s gonna be huge. There's a huge turnout for Pokeathlon so it makes sense there are crowds for other sports.

Pokelympics would have a section dedicated to trainers who wanted to have their trained Pokemon go up against other trained Pokemon. Just like the athletes of both human and Pokemon kind, they are the top of the best no matter what they place. I think it would be a great compromise for trainers who wanted their Pokemon for these kinds of sports and not the Pokemon Battling sort even though they can still battle.

Take, for example, Baseball.

There would be humans playing Baseball; humans and Pokemon playing Pokemon Base; Pokemon playing Baseball under the supervision of their Trainer(s). Now the last two disciplines could be both for trainers and for pros.

Think ping pong too if it helps. One for humans playing ping pong; Pokemon playing ping pong; and humans and Pokemon playing ping pong together. Think the latter two are for both trainers and pros just like baseball before it.

Listing those events just makes the Pokelympics and the entire sports industry much larger, isn't it?

Pokelympics won't have a Pokemon Battling section. Those are for the Pokemon League Committee to do, not the sports committees. Though much like the Pokemon Leagues, the very top one, has the Flame of Moltres/Ho-oh, it has the same flame because Moltres and Ho-oh are key parts of the Pokemon World, and the sports world in the Pokemon world would still include the flame. That means that flame would need to be kept well safe. If they could share the Flame of Moltres/Ho-oh, that would be great though the alternative could be Volcarona.

Like in Pokemon Battling, there are other competitions to win prize money. Just like normal pro sports!

Now, we know there are teams in the Pokemon world named after the Pokemon of their choice. Hey, it's better than having Native Americans as mascots. At least, they are animals.

What makes it confusing would be the names of these teams. For example, we know there are the Electabuzz, Starmie, and Magikarp baseball teams. Oluolu is primarily a Pokemon Base player of the Magikarp team of the Alola region since we see him mostly in Alola. This makes me think there are teams that share these grounds in the same manner as Galar's sports teams sharing with the Gym Challenge. That these different disciplines that share the same names which are not unlikely as with a quick Google search, it's possible.
