Barbie Movies

Hey, I grew up with the Barbie movies. It's nothing to be ashamed about. I still adore the early Barbie movies to this day.

Yes, I am aware they aren't exactly masterpieces and flawed in its storytelling. For example, why the hell doesn't the kingdom in Princess and the Pauper has other avenues to generate money? No other trading units?

I like princesses that actually take the power of their position seriously. Or any royal member really. It's actually hard to find a royal that is not an anime character taking their role seriously.

The Disney princesses aren't any help to that degree. In recent years, yes, these women have been taking their roles seriously. I refuse to consider Elsa as a royal who actually does something; from what I can gather, she only has been ruling for several years at most - and that's when I'm generous - and she basically left it up to Anna as the ruler at that abdication. I already don't like Frozen now it makes me hate it more.

I just like the idea of royalty taking advantage of their power and position to make their reign good and wonderful. To do something.

And I only have seen Anneliese from Princess and the Pauper taking that active role. Not only she knew she has responsibilities, she experienced the hardship even if it's only for a few days but it's enough that her people have difficult lives just to earn their keep.

The closest other princess is Merliah and that's because she was forced to learn just how important her role is. She just can't ignore being a princess when she's the sole heiress to a kingdom who needs a ruler.

I don't think at this point Princess Blair/Sophia in Princess Charm School would be able to rule Gardania currently. She needs lessons because she was trained to be a Lady in Waiting first - her goal at the beginning of the movie - and she didn't even know she has royal blood. Delancy might even help her since she has been a Princess in line for the throne since birth. And Blair would have a hard time believing now she's an actual princess by birthright. Just because she announced herself as Princess Sophia does not mean it really sinks in what it really means.

Seriously, think all your life as a commoner until you learn you could be the missing Princess in this country you're living in. However, you know the person who wanted the throne would want her daughter to take the throne so she's the Queen Dowager officially. Then it's revealed the lady murdered your parents and yourself as a baby. It's almost a miracle she didn't attempt to kill you again when she wanted to kick you out so you never learn the truth. All your life, you were a commoner who went to school and went for a semester at the Princess Charm school by sheer luck.

I don't count people getting married into royalty or just learning it at the end. I mean really, all their life, they thought they were a commoner and would stay that way. Because they would have to learn stuff to become a proper princess.

I mean I have a distaste for Princess and the Popstar's version of To Be a Princess. All it did was glamourize the lives of these two ladies. In modern times, royalty doesn't have much power nowadays but they still have titles and etiquette to hold up and yes, some duties even if it's philanthropy in the end. What I can say about the song is that it sounds catchy and the movie was just mediocre.

I feel like I'm getting off-topic.

Barbie movies aren't masterpieces on any stretch of the word. Even the Disney movies are flawed as heck with nostalgia somewhat powering it through.

The animation is getting better but it's obvious it's direct to video kind of money. Barbie shows have a better budget.

Just to get this out of the way: the transformation scenes are for merchandise and glam. I was annoyed whenever I see it.

I like the movies. I know they're flawed but they are fun. They're entertaining and the songs they produced and write for the movies are catchy. I still love Shine from Twelve Dancing Princesses to this day.

If you want my recommendation for a primer, go watch Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Rapunzel, 12 Dancing Princesses, Fairytopia, Princess and the Pauper, Princess Charm School, Mariposa, Magic of Pegasus, Mermaid Tale movies, probably Diamond Castle, Three Musketeers, and Pearl Princess.

Out of all of them, my faves are Nutcracker, Mariposa the first one, Princess and the Pauper, and Princess Charm School. I have a soft spot for the older Barbie movies so I would like them. Modern Barbie movies tend to swing hit or miss.

I know they aren't exactly what people call quality movies overall. Heck, my best-loved Barbie movie Princess and the Pauper is flawed as heck but I still adore it.

It's the same reason I like Spy Kids despite knowing it's not exactly quality. On a note, I wonder why the hell the media thinks Alita Battle Angel is whitewashing when anybody who knows about Robert Rodriguez knows about his Hispanic casting choices. I was questioning their intelligence if they don't know this director's basic history.

But it's fun.

And I take fun over boring any day. I would like to have a coherent story too if they don't mind.

Look, I get it, these movies aren't the best.

I've been loving My Next Life as a Villainess. I'm not a huge harem anime/manga fan so I only watch it out of recommendation and been loving it. I'm more likely to watch ecchi stuff because I would be stone-faced and I do read R-18 doujinshi and fanfiction. But I will melt when it comes to fluff.

Unlesss you want to watch actual porn where I either have two reactions either blushing or just staring at it, you won't see the stone face when I watch it.
